Google Earth Sky View

The skies usually take the inquisitiveness in me every time I see the stars and the moon. Somehow I think that they’re romantic in a special way. I once planned to buy a telescope and told myself that I will try to look at the heavens during my free time at night. But alas, I don’t have the money to buy me a powerful telescope.

Browsing on my Google account last Saturday, I stumbled upon Google Earth 4.2 and found that it already has a sky view that shows our Solar System and beyond. I’ve installed the freeware version and was quite satisfied with the rendering of outer space so I decided to keep the program.

Equating Pagination

It is easy for any newbie to get lost in tracking the number of pages that a book has, especially if the book is on the preliminary stages of layout. I found this the hard way when I tracked down the number of pages that we were producing for the whole month of March. I was staggering to input every detail on an Excel spreadsheet that I thought might help me in tracking. Bad thing is, I did not use the diabolic mathematical capabilities of Excel which really could have helped me do my work more effectively.

Microsoft Office Excel, as many of us may know already, is able to do mathematical solutions. Since I already have an idea of the pages we were working on, I could have just created a start page column and an end page column then let Excel do math.

Now getting the exact number of pages doesn’t mean that Excel only has to subtract the end page with the start page. Excel also needs to add 1 on the equation to get the right number of pages. Therefore a chapter ranging from page 1 to page 7 is…

7 minus 1 equal to 6 plus 1… answer is 7

Total No. of Pages = (Last page - First page) + 1.

So counting from page 1 to 7, the total number of leaves is 7.

If only I could have harnessed the capabilities of Excel. Maybe I’ll try it again in the office later this morning.

I’m a Fan of… Carrie Underwood

I’ve heard the song “Ever Ever After” by Carrie Underwood a few months back when I watched the movie “Enchanted”. But I was only enthralled for sometime with that song and never got to like it on the long run. I only loved it every time I hear it.

But I’ve recently seen the music video “Jesus, Take the Wheel” by Carrie Underwood and I actually gave it 5 stars. It’s a powerful melodramatic country song and seeing only a few clips from the MTV I was certain that I would love the song and its singer. Here’s Jesus, Take the Wheel on youtube

Great song Carrie Underwood… I’ve just become your fan. I’ll be buying one of your CDs on any of the nearest Odyssey store here in Manila.
